Bedgebury Arboretum
Dragonflies nailed on the landscape
hiding in their stillness
on invisible oscillating wings,
zip with breathtaking suddenness
across the corner of the eye
then fix again,
resplendent in blues and greens,
against the stillness of the flashing lake
where tall trees effervesce against the sun.
Drinking pastel draughts of air
in the shade’s depths
under the majestic trees
the picture melts into memory,
waits to spin again
on brittle days,
to dip the mind
in deep cool shade.
