Eclipse
The black moon swells
to sunsize,
black-eyed watchers shiver,
silent blackbirds fold.
Larks tread dead air
in silent song,
hawk drops,
swallows search
the dark edge
of space.
Bat wings flicker
deep in caves,
owl opens a stare.
When the fire comes
tearing at their eyes,
a crazed cock crows.
