Feet

This shoe, when all’s said and done
lacks something, needs something
to fill it out and give it purpose,
just as the slipper by the fire
needs a cold old man,
and the crystal stiletto on the stair
awaits a pretty sooted foot.
As old Bill Thompson would have said
“leg-ends” to make a stand,
toe-holders, heel enhanced,
best where men play football
and women dance.
