He Comes In Flatfooted
He comes in flatfooted
out of the north wind
after the spending
after the gifting
after the feasting
comes in cold sober
dark faced and leaden
waits for the melting
waits for the warming
waits for the greening
greatcoat unbuttoning
soft smile unzipping
sees in the distance
sees the birds coming
sees the sun falling
here in the darkness
dreams in the seasons
and when he has finished
his vision expended
he creeps out light-footed
into the past.
