Tears
Tears in your eyes.
What can I do?
We’d do it all again
these twenty years,
for you and I have grown
accustomed to ourselves
this while.
Tears in your eyes,
a gaze that’s deep in years,
sometimes a youthful smile;
I know that aching sigh
the paths you might have trod,
the laughter and the dreams,
that passed you by.
Tears in your eyes
that we might part, and rise
with freedom in our wings;
take back the summers’ loss,
fall down the towering sky,
you to the golden south,
and I?
Tears in my eyes,
the losses and the gains,
the voices from the past,
the fingers’ broken grasp.
No! .. No gaze, no smile,
that tears may stay a longer
while.
